embroidered clothesWith my dianthus blooming and smelling oh-so-sweet, the swallowtail butterflies have been hanging around my front deck for the past week or two. Thus I have had my photographer’s cap on and have been hanging around my front deck as well trying to get as many shots of them as I possibly could. I’ve tried shooting swallowtails before and have never had a huge amount of luck, but there must be something about the dianthus that they really like because they keep coming around and hovering, making it much easier to shoot them. In a photography sense that is. I’ve been really pleased with how  a few of the shots have turned out and would love to use the colorful butterflies as an inspiration for the custom embroidery I want to have put on my visor. I’m not very good at sewing of any kind, but I like to have fun with it and try new things. If I manage to make it work out, maybe I’ll even do an embroidered shirt for my daughter, too. She loves the butterflies and has been outside watching them with me almost as often as I’ve been out shooting them.

I have a new favorite word that adequately describes myself (in a tie with freakazoid). My new favorite word is ‘procrastimaster’. Yup, that’s me.

I bought all kinds of embroidery thread that I was sure I was going to use in no time flat about five years ago when I had a yen to pick up embroidery. So far my ambition has far outstripped my accomplishment.

I love instrumental Celtic music.  embroidery thread colors

My girls are weird. The other day they were climbing the doorframes saying that they were spider webs. I love them.

The other day my son had a peewee baseball game, and it was a very bright and warm day, so I pulled out my trusty embroidered team visor from my daughter’s softball days. Boy did it help keep the sun out of my eyes. It did not, however, do my hair any favors.

My 24 hour allergy medicine has become my new best friend. I love the outdoors and nature, but it is not loving me so much right now. Ugh. Sinus problems abound.

I love coming up with a whole bunch of random things that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. It gives everyone a small glimpse of what it’s like to be inside my head.

3d embroideryMy son had his first peewee baseball game on Saturday. Morning baseball games in April so often equal cold. This was no exception. Brrr! At least it wasn’t as cold as my daughter’s track meet the other night, though. Anyway, not only did he have a long-sleeved t-shirt on under his screen printed uniform shirt, he also wore his embroidered jacket the entire game. And I’m glad I didn’t have to be quite as bundled up as I did at my daughter’s track meet. This time I only needed one embroidered blanket, no stocking cap, and no leggings underneath my sweatpants. The cold must have gotten to him anyway, though. He’s left-handed, but the first two times he was up to bat he batted right-handed. Then the next two times he batted left-handed. The funny thing is that he was able to hit the ball each time he was up regardless of which direction he was batting from. That’s cool maybe he’ll be a switch hitter as he gets older. The funniest thing though was when he was in the “pitcher’s” position (at that age they don’t actually pitch, the coaches do). He had his embroidered team hat on backwards and thought he was Mr. Cool. What a funny guy!

Cold track meet

May 7, 2012

I went to a track meet of my daughter’s last week and almost became a momcicle. Whoa! It was cold! What felt like one hundred mile an hour winds (in actuality were about 25-30 mph) were blowing right in my face. And since it was a small town in a rural area, there was a [...]

Random embroidery thoughts

April 30, 2012

My brain is a pretty strange place. Random thoughts that flit in and out like butterflies. For example: My firewitch dianthus are the only flowers currently blooming. I love that name. And they smell so sweet. I would really love to do some custom embroidery on something again. That was fun. It’s frustrating when I [...]

Track warm-ups

April 26, 2012

My seventh grader is just loving track this year. At her last meet, she was voted the meet MVP by the coaches because she had received personal bests in both her races, the 4×400 meter relay team she was on received third place in their race, and she was being overall supportive of her teammates [...]

Spring clothes

April 23, 2012

My seventh grade daughter had her second dance of the school year last Friday. It was what they called a ‘mini-formal’. Of course this meant that we had to go shopping to get her a nice dress. Since we don’t typically have need for the kids to wear dressy clothes, she had nothing to wear. [...]

Fast turnaround

April 19, 2012

Last weekend, I heaved a hefty sigh of relief when I learned that a possibly tornadic storm system that had looked to be headed for my home while I was in town running errands tracked north of my home area instead and missed it completely. As I headed for home, I thought how good it [...]

Embroidered school spirit

April 13, 2012

I’m sitting here at my older daughter’s very first track meet. I love being able to watch her run. I think track just might be the sport for her. There is just one small problem, though. The unseasonably warm weather we were having just a few short weeks ago has all but disappeared and I [...]

Embroidery and procrastination

April 10, 2012

Recent conversation with a friend – Me: I need a straw hat. With embroidered accents. Because it’s pretty. Friend: ‎? Me: Because I’m tired of the part in my hair and the tips of my ears getting sunburned. And I can never remember to put suntan lotion on them, not to mention that I don’t [...]
